The Tropics in Willoughby!

Did you ever think you’d see palm trees in Willoughby?

Professional Artist, Chuck Russo, submitted his sketch for inclusion in The DiVine Sculpture Walk earlier this year. His unique rendition of two palm trees constructed entirely of aluminum peeked the interest of the submission committee immediately.

The piece was accepted and Chuck went to work! Over the next 6 weeks, Chuck designed, cut and assembled more than 100 pieces of the metal fabrication. The Artist is the owner and wizard behind Chuck Russo Aluminum and works in the medium for more practical applications in his daily work.  His mastery of the material is evident in the finished sculpture.

The submission committee and Chuck chose to install the work next to Spray U Tan Custom Tanning, which seemed a fitting location to bring a bit of the tropics to our community. The final installation stands over 10 feet tall and the canopy of palm leaves extends nearly 7 feet wide.

Mr. Russo enjoys creating his artistic palm trees as an additional service through his usual business. A smaller rendition is on display inside the tanning salon.

See this piece and more at The DiVine Sculpture Garden on display along Vine Street in The DiVine District area of Downtown Willoughby. The installation includes more than 20 works from area professional and amateur artists and is open to the public now through November.
